Notary

Do you need a Notary Public or a Commissioner for Oaths?

In Alberta, usually only Lawyers can be a Notary Public.  This makes it hard to access when you need a Notary.  You tend to need a Notary if

a) the document says only Notary
b) the document will be sent out of province

A Commissioner for Oaths is an appointment many people have, including the majority of staff at Law Offices.  If your document only requires a commissioner, we may be able to be more flexible for you to drop in and get something signed – a donation will still be expected.

A Commissioner cannot certify true copies, that must be done by a Notary, but if you are willing to drop your originals off for us to copy and come back to get them, you can get that done without having to fit into our notary period.  Our office needs to take the copies of your original documents in order certify them as a true copy.
